About Natural Resources on the NGX
Natural Resources is the smallest of the NGX sectors by market cap and number of listings. It covers a thin slate of mining, minerals and metals names — Aluminium Extrusion Industries, Multi-Trex Integrated Foods (cocoa processing, classified here historically), and a few small dormant or near-dormant counters.
The sector is more of a thematic option than a core holding. Nigeria's solid minerals sector has been a perennial "next big thing" promised by successive administrations, with limited follow-through in listed equity terms. For most retail investors, the sector is illiquid, low free-float, and shouldn't be relied on for daily trading liquidity. It is worth watching for catalysts around mining sector reform, lithium and rare-earth interest, and any new IPO activity from larger private miners.
